Our brand new Stein Bierkeller opens this week – just in time to put some German festive Oompah into Oldham’s Christmas. A £250,000 refurbishment has created Oldham’s first ever Bierkeller on the ground floor of the former Tokyo Project nightclub in Roscoe Street. Happy days!

Christmas Eve – Full Oompah Show Open 5pm till 3am

Boxing Day – Full Oompah Show Open 5pm till 3am

Bank Holiday Sunday – DJ’s & Apres Ski Vibe 5pm till 3am

The venture will create 40 new jobs and aims to bring some much-needed fun for over-30s back into the town centre.

The Oldham Bierkeller is on target to open its doors to the public with a massive oompah-pah on Saturday, December 12, following a VIP preview event on Friday, December 11.

The new venue is an authentic Bavarian Bier Hall, complete with oompah bands and legendary 2-pint steins, with over a dozen different draught beers plus a selection of 50 world bottled and craft beers. There will also be Stein Cocktails and a wide range of spirits and wines.

The drinks offer will be complemented with typical Bierkeller snacks like Brockwurst, giant frankfurters, and pretzels.

The Bierkeller will then be open every Friday and Saturday from 5pm, creating a new after work meeting place with live Oompah Shows onstage from 9pm until Midnight every weekend. Themed ‘80s and party DJs will then swing the night through until the early hours, Thursdays will see Della’s Crazy Quiz nights with Industry Nights on Sundays to give local bar staff chance to let their own hair down.

There will be lots of festive fun in the run-up to Christmas with the Bierkeller also open on Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve. The venue is available for Christmas party bookings and can seat up to 200 revellers.

The development has been carried out by Tokyo Industries who own and run 32 bars and nightclubs across the UK, including successful Bierkellers in York, Newcastle and, opened recently, in Bradford.

Tokyo Industries Managing Director Aaron Mellor was born in Oldham with Tokyo Project being his first club, which opened in 1997. Before that, Aaron ran the hugely successful “Ambition?” club nights at Oldham’s famous Butterflies club and the council’s QE Hall, before buying the former Club57/Hurricane club as a permanent home. Inspiral Carpets formed in the venue and Oasis played their second ever gig there.

This development is particularly close to my heart as I’m a local lad and Tokyo Oldham was my very first venture, which effectively launched my journey into the nightlife sector back in 1997. Before we even purchased the original venue, we’d run club nights here. It was called Club57/The Hurricane Club back then and was a Snooker Hall, once owned by Alex ‘Hurricane’ Higgins. It hosted live shows, with Inspiral Carpets formed here, and Oasis playing their second-ever show. I also recall an unknown Peter Kay doing stand-up to about seven people when we first opened – he probably wrote Phoenix Nights based on that experience.

Oldham’s got a little bit boring recently – it’s like fun left on the MetroLink with everyone else. There’s a real feeling that we need to get some entertainment back in town, without having to head into Manchester – something really local. The Bierkeller concept seems to have taken off in a big way across the country and I wanted to bring a bit of that oompah to my old stomping ground back here in Oldham. It’s the party season – so we can’t wait to see lots of people swaying on their benches, raising a Stein and generally having a great time.

We also really want to bring live music back. Since The Castle closed. Oldham’s not really had a solid live music venue. We can’t promise return visits from Kasabian or Libertines but we aim to get some cool live music happening again, every now and then, with some really great biers and cool DJs.
